Navient is a US-based company based in Wilmington, Delaware that manages student loans across the country. Navient is one of the most well-known federal student loan services in the United States and it serves and collects across the whole country, managing as many as $300 billion in student loans for more than 12 million debtors. The company was formed in 2014 after the split of Sallie Mae. As of 2018, Navient has been a very successful company and manages about 25% of all student loans across the US.
Navient Repayment Options
If your federal student loan is being managed by Navient then you will be enrolled automatically in the standard repayment plan where you will have to make a certain amount of payment for 10 years. You can also choose from the other repayment options as established by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Standard: Fixed payments over 10 years
- Extended: Fixed payments over 25 years
- Graduated: Payments that increase at regular intervals over the course of 10 or 25 years
- Income-driven: Payments that are capped at 10, 15, or 20 percent of the borrower’s monthly income
Navient has an online portal and mobile apps that you can use to make payments, check your balance, and activity. Automatic Payments are also available, where the amount will be deducted from your account each month. If you do not prefer online payments, then you will have to send checks to the company.
